Hot springs abound in and around Mammoth Lakes, CA. They are the result of underground thermal activity from hot volcanic magma below. Hot Creek is a popular destination for locals and tourists. At one time people enjoyed soaking in the creek. Unreliable temperatures caused injury and even death. Signs and fencing now prohibit bathers from soaking in the waters. It’s still fun to sit along the bank and watch the steam rise from the water. There is great fishing along the banks of the creek. Nearby Hot Creek Hatchery raises trout to stock nearby lakes.
