Blog Post #14: Now I Know Why It’s Called “Valley of Fire”

Blog Post Image

Photography friends and I spent 4 days exploring Valley of Fire State Park, 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. When light falls upon the red sandstone formations, they appear to be on fire, thus the name. This photo was taken on our last late afternoon photoshoot. We found a bluff which overlooked a section of the valley, with views of multi-colored rocks, sand, low green shrubs and the serpentine road which we used so often to access the valley’s hiking trails and viewpoints. I captured this image as the sun made one of several passes across the landscape.
