I was part of a workshop given by Jeff Sullivan, fabulous regional photographer, who led us to this jaw-dropping meadow. It took some time to get here. We depended on 4×4 and all-wheel-drive vehicles to maneuver the deep ruts and rocks along a dirt road. At one point, cars were parked and Jeff took us in small groups on another sketchy road to this spot. We all gasped with disbelief and delight as the blankets of blooms spread out before us. I found this location to set up my tripod with the idea of showing the variety of colors and textures of the phlox, lupine and mule’s ear stretching towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Clouds moderated the afternoon light. I will remember this day for many years to come.
