The Eastern Sierra offers recreational opportunities throughout the year. Locals and visitors are able to ski/snowboard/snowshoe in Mammoth Lakes during the winter months. There are also opportunities to hike in the high desert at this time of year. Yesterday, March 5, we drove 40 miles south of Mammoth Lakes, to hike in the Tungsten Hills. Temps were in the low 60’s. Our ramble took us to views like this. Yes, those are the snowy Sierra Nevada in the distance, yet we encountered sand and rocks and desert vegetation just awakening from winter hibernation.
