The Long Valley Caldera where I live is a magical place. 760,000 years ago a gigantic eruption and collapsing magma left an enormous bowl which is known today as the Long Valley Caldera. The Caldera is surrounded by White, Glass and Sierra Nevada Mountains. We set up our gear to catch the full moon and any possible color in wispy clouds. We were’t disappointed. First, the sun set behind the western mountains, then subtle pinks appeared and, finally, the full moon popped up over west-facing mountains. We were challenged by those wispy clouds which alternately hid and revealed the moon.
